How to play White Elephant

Bring a wrapped mystery gift, then take turns opening and stealing gifts until every player has one.

   Bring one wrapped gift

   Keep the gift a surprise and stay within the host’s maximum price.

   Choose a play order

   The host randomizes the order. Player one opens any wrapped gift.

   Open or steal

   On each turn, open a new gift or steal one that has already been revealed.

   Replace a stolen gift

   If your gift is stolen, immediately open a wrapped gift or steal another eligible gift.

   Lock popular gifts

   A gift becomes safe after it reaches the exchange’s steal limit.

   Give player one a final choice

   After the last wrapped gift is opened, player one may keep their gift or make one final eligible steal.
